A Free Monthly Offering from Behavioral Fitness by Doug Binzak Location Note: This event is at the Lafayette Reservoir. Please disregard automated messages indicating location of Behavioral Fitness. Gather at the giant flagpole in the center of the parking lot. Come walk. Come talk. Come wonder. Join Doug and a small community of fellow seekers for an unhurried walk through the beauty of the Lafayette Reservoir — water, woods, grasses, hills, and open sky. Sauntering Sundays is less about getting somewhere and more about being somewhere. We’ll walk and talk about life, meaning, healing, and what it means to be human in this complicated time on the planet. Along the way, we’ll make room for conversation, reflection, connection, silence, laughter — and whatever the trail happens to offer us that day. It’s also an invitation to remember something we easily forget: We aren’t separate from nature. We are nature. By slowing down and moving together within its gentler rhythms, perhaps we can rediscover a broader sense of who we are, where we belong, and what this might all be about. Naturalist John Muir loved the word saunter. He connected it to the old idea of pilgrimage — traveling through the land not simply to reach a destination, but with reverence, curiosity, and attention. That’s the spirit of these Sundays. A walk without a finish line. A conversation without an agenda. A monthly pilgrimage toward a little more “whole-y-ness.” Free and open to the community. Doug currently serves as a Bereavement Counselor for Sutter Care at Home and has spent the past decade working in hospice care as a Spiritual Counselor, Bereavement Counselor, or both. His work has included time with Tranquil Care Hospice, Hospice Maui, and Crossroads Hospice. He has also served as a Chaplain for Mercy Retirement and Care Center and as a Night Minister and late-night phone counselor for San Francisco Night Ministry. A nationally certified yoga instructor, Doug taught for multiple YogaWorks studios throughout Southern California and with studios in both California and Hawaii. Before dedicating his life to healing and spiritual care, he spent 15 years as a television executive in Hollywood. Through his writing, counseling, volunteer work, and “Healing Yoga” video series available through Yogis Anonymous, Doug continues to share the wisdom and practices that have been passed down to him. Doug loves to travel, hike among the redwoods, experiment in the kitchen, and cheer on the Green Bay Packers. Most of all, he treasures sharing this wild and beautiful ride of life with his beloved sons, Harry and Quin.
