Join Greenbelt Alliance for a spirited pre-Halloween walk in Mount Diablo State Park! In this family-friendly walk, we'll stroll up Mitchell Canyon in search of witches' broom, devil's horns, ghost pines, and other scary and not-so-scary signs of the season. But first, we'll meet the famous 8-legged diva, Scarlett O'Harry (a tarantula), examine the skins and skulls of some of our native Bay Area fauna, and hear the tale of Bully Ingram, a pirate who jumped ship and took up residence in a cave near Mitchell Canyon! TOTAL DISTANCE This is an easy hike of two miles round-trip with little elevation change. LEADERS Liz Watson. WEATHER POLICY Rain cancels. COST $6 per vehicle park entrance fee ($5 for seniors). Exact cash required. Pay at the entrance gate. Pay digitally by scanning the QR code at the entrance sign or text CA2902 to 53242. No app required. WHERE TO MEET We'll assemble near the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center . There is a restroom nearby. NOTES Bring water and snacks. Dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes.
