Free Film Screening: The Loneliest Whale

Watch the film, The Loneliest Whale: The Search for 52, for free at the San Francisco Public Library (Main). The Loneliest Whale: The Search for 52 is a documentary that follows the quest to find a unique whale that calls at a frequency of 52 hertz, a pitch unreachable by any other known species. This creature’s isolation served as the core inspiration for the 2015 BTS track "Whalien 52 ," where the group uses the whale as a metaphor for the alienation and loneliness felt by young people whose voices seem unheard. Through this connection, the "52-hertz whale" has become a powerful symbol within the BTS fandom, representing the hope of finding a community even when you feel like an "alien" in the world. PG, 96 mins., 2021. Closed captions (CC) in English. This is part of the Ride the Hallyu Wave series .
