Mariachi Herencia de Mexico: Día de los Muertos

Friday, October 23, 7:30pm Seasonal Holidays Mariachi Herencia de México La Nueva Generación Tour Día de los Muertos Program: Cal Performances celebrates Día de los Muertos with Chicago’s next-generation mariachi ensemble. Mariachi Herencia de México was founded 10 years ago by César Maldonado, a founder of the Mariachi Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes mariachi education in Chicago public schools. The band fuses traditional repertoire with influences from other Mexican, Caribbean, and Central and South American genres such as salsa, bolero, bossa nova, son jarocho, huapango, and cumbia—held together with deep emotion and bold storytelling. Through Cal Performances’ Golden Bear Circle program, UC Berkeley students are eligible to purchase a limited number of $10 tickets for this evening’s performances. Information about this and more student events and discounts is available at calperformances.org/ucb-students.
