Film Screening: Sunday Beauty Queen

Join us for a screening of the film Sunday Beauty Queens. Baby Ruth Villarama’s documentary intimately explores the work and social lives of five Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) working in Hong Kong through the lens of community beauty pageants sponsored by and for OFWs. About the Film Beneath Hong Kong’s glittering facade, Filipino women employed as domestic helpers work in relative anonymity and for near slave wages. In a beauty pageant like no other in the world, five helpers give themselves makeovers for a day and gleefully reclaim their dignity. Watch the film trailer here.
