Connect with fellow Bay Area professionals, compost enthusiasts, scientists, and community members interested in composting and soil health. Join us for a special evening at the REAP Climate Center as we gather for a community potluck, biochar bonfire, and conversation about all things compost! We’re bringing together people interested in composting, soil health, urban farming, food waste, organics recycling, regenerative agriculture, and related work for a night of community, conversation, and connection. This is an informal way to meet others approaching these issues from different angles. We hope to create a welcoming space where community composters, farmers, gardeners, soil enthusiasts, waste professionals, educators, researchers, nonprofits, public agencies, students, and curious community members can connect over our regular weekly community potluck . Whether you work at a community garden, run a compost operation, grow food, manage organic waste, study soils, teach composting, work in local government, volunteer in your neighborhood, or are simply curious about what happens to our food scraps, we'd love to have you join us! The goal isn't a formal presentation or conference. We want to create a space where people doing related work can meet each other, swap knowledge, share challenges and resources, and find opportunities to collaborate. The REAP Climate Center is a 4.26-acre living laboratory and outdoor campus in Alameda. REAP’s mission is to increase access to climate action through ecological experiences and climate workforce development, giving people opportunities to learn environmental processes and practices by doing them. Composting is already a big part of what happens here. We receive organic material from the Alameda Food Bank and Fungi Farms and turn it into compost on our campus. We use composting as a hands-on way for volunteers and community members to learn about soil, waste, decomposition, and regenerative practices. In the future, we hope to use this compost to grow nutrient-rich food to give back to the community. But REAP is only one part of a much bigger ecosystem. Across the Bay Area, people and organizations are approaching questions around soil, food, waste, and regeneration from many different perspectives. We see REAP as a place where those worlds can come together. Come share what you're working on, bring a question or challenge you've been thinking about, learn what others are doing, and make some new compost connections. 5:00–6:00 PM | Community Cook Optional — come early to hang out and help us prepare some food! 6:00–8:30 PM | Community Bonfire Potluck + Compost Mixer We especially encourage you to invite someone else working in the compost, soil, farming, food, or waste world. The more perspectives around the table, the more useful the connections can be. All ages are welcome. Children should be accompanied by an adult. REAP Climate Center is a living laboratory and community gathering space in Alameda where people can learn climate solutions by doing them. Our campus brings together ecological restoration, composting, urban greening, biochar, regenerative agriculture, workforce development, and other hands-on approaches to building a more resilient Bay Area. We don't have all the answers, but we do have a unique space to gather, experiment, learn from one another, and get our hands dirty. We hope you'll join us!
